About

The hospital is located in the suburb of Foreshore in Cape Town, Western Cape.  Foreshore lies right on the coastline between the city centre and the Port of Cape Town.   The city of Cape Town is very popular amongst national and international tourists.  The city is the capital of the Western Cape and famous for well-known landmarks such as Table Mountain and Cape Point.

The suburb of Foreshore borders the Cape Town International Conference Centre and the suburbs of Woodstock, de Waterkant and Zonnebloem.  The hospital is easily accessible via the N1 to the North, the M60 to the South-East, the R102 to the South and the M4 to the South of the hospital.

Beds and Wards

The hospital has 248 beds and 11 theatres and offers a full range of medical services to local, national and international patients.  Professor Barnard’s legacy is carried forward by first-class professionals who continue his vision and passion of achieving firsts in medical services and to improve outcomes for patients.

Mothers and babies receive around the clock specialised services and care at the maternity unit.  The neonatal ICU cares for babies in need of high care and attention.  Critically ill and injured children are cared for at the paediatric intensive care unit.

The hospital specialises and strive to improve advanced medical procedures to ensure the best and fastest recovery time for patients.  These procedures include the robotic cardiac procedure and the da Vinci robotic-assisted procedure.  The Berlin Heart and LVAD devices are also used to optimise patients’ clinical outcome.
