It is one of the larger Life hospitals in the area boasting a large contingent of beds and specialties compared to its sister facilities in the areas surrounding the commercial hub of Sandton, Johannesburg. Fourways is a collection of suburbs, mainly middle and upper class suburbs, that lies north of the plush Bryanston and popular Randburg on the West Rand. The hospital sits in one of the fastest-developing commercial and residential hubs in Johannesburg and the facilities ensure that it fits in with the needs and demands of the community.

Beds and Wards

Fourways Hospital has a 194 beds with a 26 bed ICU (intensive care unit) and 8 bed high care unit. There are 10 operating theatres and 57 surgical beds. The maternity unit has 16 beds with a 5 bed neonatal ICU available for newborns who need special care. There is also an 18 bed paediatric unit with a 2 bed paediatric ICU.

Although the hospital caters for most medical specialties within its state of the art facility, it has gained recognition for certain of its specialist units. Most notable among these is its vascular laboratory, cardiac unit, life support unit, maternity and paediatric units, breast health department and kidney and dialysis unit.

It is also renowned for its 24 hour emergency and trauma unit with 5 resuscitation beds, casting area, 2 bed procedure facility for small surgical procedures and Hazmat shower. Their contingent of private medical specialists and on-duty doctors ensure that patients get the best quality treatment 24 hours a day.

  • Morning: 11h00 to 11h30
  • Afternoon: 15h00 to 16h00 (3PM to 4PM)
  • Evening: 19h00 to 20h00 (7PM to 8PM)

Maternity ward visiting hours differs depending on whether you are the spouse of the mother, a child, parent/parents-in-law or just a friend.

  • Morning: Speak to the hospital about grandparents/siblings cuddle time (usually around 11h00).
  • Afternoon: 15h00 to 16h00 (3PM to 4PM) – for friends and extended family members
  • Evening: 19h00 to 20h00 (7PM to 8PM) – only for immediate family members

Fathers are allowed a more flexible visiting hours from morning to evening.
